Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Vancouver Island on Thursday, among 68 new cases in the province.
There are now 906 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. Another 2,810 people are being monitored because of having a close contact with someone with the virus.
Twenty-two people in B.C. are in hospital with the virus, including seven in intensive care.
One additional death in long-term care was reported on Thursday, for a total of 204 in the province.
The Island Health region has 14 active cases and no COVID-19 patients in hospital. There have been a total of 173 confirmed cases in the region to date, and five deaths.
There were no new health-care facility outbreaks on Thursday. There are 11 active outbreaks in the health-care system, including nine in long-term care or assisted living and two in an acute-care unit. There have been no outbreaks in long-term care on Vancouver Island.
One new community outbreak was reported on Thursday, a construction site for a water-treatment facility near Elkford in the Interior Health region. Seven cases are connected to that outbreak, six of whom reside in Alberta and one in another health region in B.C. The workers tested positive once they were home.
Health authorities continue to issue community-exposure alerts when a person has tested positive for the virus and not all possible contacts can be found. These alerts and others — exposures on flights, for instance — can be found on websites for health authorities and the B.C. Centre of Disease Control website.
A total of 5,372 people in B.C. have tested positive for the virus.
