A Tofino registered nurse has agreed to a one-year suspension of her nursing licence after allegations of sexual misconduct.

A B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives inquiry committee panel approved a consent agreement between the college and Andrea McGowan.

The agreement is related to a specific incident of “sexual misconduct involving a co-worker at a work function in 2021,” according to the college in a notice posted last week, along with additional on and off-duty incidents of “sexual misconduct towards co-workers,” including unwanted sexualized comments and gestures, and other communications through social media.

The college did not elaborate on the types of comments and gestures or the time frame involved.

McGowan, who is employed by Tofino General Hospital, voluntarily agreed to practice conditions including a one-year nursing registration suspension.

The inquiry committee says it is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.

McGowan declined to comment on the suspension.
