The RCMP is asking for assistance in locating a man who hasn’t been seen for eight months and was only reported missing this week.

Michael Hounsell, 49, was last seen in February, said police. His vehicle was discovered Oct. 24 by a passerby on a logging road about an hour from Bamfield, said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, RCMP media liaison officer for the Island Division.

“Police then started making enquiries, which led to the determination that he was missing,” Bérubé said.

Hounsell is known for spending time in the wilderness and it’s not unusual for him to be out of contact with his family, RCMP said.

He is described at five-foot-seven and about 140 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Police are concerned for his health and well-being.

Anyone with information on Hounsell’s whereabouts is urged to contact their local police department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
