HIgh winds off Dallas Road on Wednesday night resulted in two barges breaking away and drifting to shore.

Two barges carrying construction equipment and materials broke loose while being towed in high winds off the Dallas Road waterfront Wednesday night and drifted to shore.

No injuries were reported.

One barge, carrying a crane, hit rocks near Dallas Road and Olympia Avenue, the other hit the beach near Dallas Road and Cook Street.

“We’re aware of the barge ashore near Dallas & Cook,” Victoria police said in a post on Twitter. "No people at risk, nothing can be done until the weather subsides.”

The barges were being taken away from the Coho ferry terminal construction site at Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

Some debris that appeared to be from the barges was washed to shore.

There were conflicting reports on whether one tugboat or two were towing the barges.
