A 20-year-old Nanaimo man has been charged and was remanded in custody after two people in their 60s suffered serious stab wounds in their home Saturday evening.

Nanaimo RCMP say the victims knew the man, who fled after the attack. They were both treated for multiple stab wounds before being taken to hospital, where they remained on Monday.

An investigation led police to a home on Boundary Crescent where officers found a suspect, a man in his 20s.

Police said they’re confident the attack was an isolated incident and no other people were involved. It was not connected to a recent shooting in Nanaimo, they said.

Anthony Nielsen has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of assault with a weapon, and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

RCMP ask anyone with information about the attack to call them at 250-754-2345, and quote file #2021-46614.
