Two pedestrians were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday after being struck in a Colwood crosswalk by a left-turning driver.

The two 19-year-olds were crossing the intersection at Latoria Road and Ryder Hesjedal Way when they were hit about 6:20 p.m. by the Nissan Frontier pickup.

Police said the driver was stopped at a red light and turned left when the light turned green, hitting the pedestrians.

The driver was issued a ticket for failure to yield to the pedestrians, who had the right of way, police said.

West Shore RCMP responded, along with the Colwood Fire Department and ambulance paramedics.

The 26-year-old driver remained at the scene and was co-operative, police said.

Speed and impairment were ruled out as factors, police said.
