A vehicle stolen in a brazen carjacking on Halloween has been recovered, but the perpetrator remains at large, Saanich police said Monday.
The Honda Civic was found in the 1700-block of Swartz Bay Road near the ferry terminal on Saturday at 6 a.m. by North Saanich/Sidney RCMP.
A search of the area with a police dog was unsuccessful in locating a suspect.
The vehicle was stolen from a McDonald’s drive-through across from Uptown Centre at about 6:45 p.m. on Halloween night. A person dressed all in black and wearing a mask opened the door of the car as it was leaving the drive-through and ordered the driver out, saying he had a weapon.
The carjacker was last seen driving east on Saanich Road. The vehicle’s owner was left shaken but not physically harmed.
Saanich Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating and asking for public assistance.
Authorities are asking anyone with dash-cam video of the area around the McDonald’s at Saanich Road and Oak Street at about 6:45 p.m. on Halloween, or the area around Swartz Bay Road and Wain Road between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on on Saturday to email: [email protected]
