One of the 11 candidates in Victoria’s council byelection is ending his campaign and endorsing an opponent.
Jason Heit withdrew too late to remove his name from the ballot, but he is calling on voters to support fellow candidate Stephen Andrew.
Heit said he shares similar views as Andrew on public safety, homelessness and economic development, and doesn’t want to split the vote.
“To me, this comes down to the greater good of Victorians, as opposed to me trying to go head to head with a similar campaign platform,” he said.
“I just don’t think that would be in the best interests of the city.”
The Dec. 12 byelection is being held to fill a council seat vacated by Laurel Collins, who resigned after winning the Victoria riding for the NDP is last year’s federal election.
