The Victoria Hospitals Foundation’s Imaging is Power campaign has reached its $11-million goal, making it the foundation’s most successful annual campaign to date.

More than 5,900 individuals and organizations contributed to the campaign.

The funds will be used to replace six pieces of medical imaging equipment at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospital. The list includes a new CT scanner, SPECT/CT scanner and C-Arm imaging device and upgrading of three existing MRI machines

Improvement goals include shorter wait times, enhanced scan clarity and better patient outcomes.

The refurbishment of the first MRI machine is already underway at Royal Jubilee Hospital. The new CT scanner is on its way to Victoria General Hospital, and the cardiac C-Arm replacement will start later this summer.

Avery Brohman, CEO of Victoria Hospitals Foundation, said the organization is “tremendously grateful to every donor who showed up and gave when we asked, every organization who led by example, and every volunteer and spokesperson who helped change the landscape of imaging in our hospitals.” More than 500 people undergo scheduled scans every day — from in-utero babies to seniors — with emergency scans taking place in between.

“Not a day will go by that I don’t think of all of you who made this revolution in imaging happen for our hospitals,” said Dr. Alan Andrew, radiologist and medical director for Island Health Medical Imaging.

The foundation partnered with the Capital Regional Hospital District, the Ministry of Health and Island Health for the project.
