Oh rats! Victoria is the second rattiest city in B.C., according to a national pest control company.
Only Vancouver placed higher in Orkin Canada’s ranking of the province’s 20 “rattiest” cities.
Orkin said it counted the number of rat and mice treatments, both residential and commercial, per community for all of 2017 to create its list.
The company published its list Wednesday as spring approaches.
Victoria outstrips other ranked Vancouver Island communities. Duncan was ninth, followed by Nanaimo at 10th, Sidney in 14th place, Port Alberni in 17th spot, and North Saanich at 19th.
Along with the list, Orkin offered some rodent-prevention tips:
• Seal any cracks or holes in your foundation with weather-resistant sealant. Install weather stripping around windows and doors, as well as door sweeps.
• Keep shrubbery cut back at least one metre from the exterior walls of your home to eliminate any hiding spots for rodents.
• Eliminate any moisture sources such as clogged gutters or water gathering in trash or recycling bins.
