A Victoria man is facing 23 recommended charges after officers found more than $11,000 in stolen property at a multi-unit residential supportive housing building.
The break-ins involve a financial services business on Oak Bay Avenue, a nearby school on Richmond Avenue and a technology company on Head Street that was robbed twice.
A man was caught on CCTV footage forcing his way into the financial services building on Feb. 8 and leaving with documents sticking out of his backpack a few minutes later.
A man wearing similar clothes and a backpack with documents sticking out was caught on CCTV entering the school and searching through filing cabinets. Electronic equipment was stolen from the school.
Staff with Victoria police’s analysis and intelligence section discovered potential links between the incidents and identified a suspect.
The suspect was located at a multi-unit residential supportive housing building in the 700-block of Queens Avenue.
Officers entered the unit with a search warrant last Friday and found property linking the suspect to multiple break-in investigations. The suspect was found hiding under a mattress and arrested.
Police estimate the value of the recovered stolen property to be more than $11,000.
VicPD is recommending 23 charges, including breaking and entering, obstruction, possession of property obtained by crime and breaching a release order.
