Victoria police are asking people who rushed to the care of a 20-year-old Saanich woman, who died in a crash on Blanshard and Bay streets Sunday, to come forward.

Moments after the collision, several people raced to the aid of the driver, who survived, and the 20-year-old woman, who died.

The B.C. Coroners Service has not released her name.

Some of the witnesses stayed, but others left, police said.

“Officers need to speak to anyone who may have been at the scene and witnessed the collision or the aftermath,” said Victoria Const. Mike Russell.

Police were called to the scene of the single-vehicle collision about 12:30 a.m. Paramedics confirmed the female passenger was dead.

Witnesses told police the vehicle had been travelling southbound on Blanshard Street at about 130 kilometres an hour. The sedan struck a light standard on the southwest corner of the intersection.

Victoria police ask anyone who was at the scene to call them on the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-(TIPS) 8477.
