Victoria’s Congregation Emanu-El, at 1461 Blanshard St., is observing holy days this week, part of Passover celebrations marking the Exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt.

The synagogue’s rabbi, Harry Brechner, said Passover is a time when Jews reflect on their escape from the bondage, as told in the Torah. Brechner said the story is made eternal when people reflect and act upon the notion of how they can liberate themselves in life.

“How can you change to bring greater liberation to your life and to be more true to yourself,” he said. “And you’re never going to be truly free until the world is free.”
