Victoria's jobless rate rises

Greater Victoria's unemployment rate increased to 5.6 per cent in July, up from 5.3 per cent in June, Statistics Canada says. The construction industry in the region has seen an eight per cent drop in employment over the last 12 months.

The construction industry in the region has seen an eight per cent drop in employment over the last 12 months.

Nationally, 34,000 jobs disappeared - almost half of them in B.C. The provincial unemployment rate rose to seven per cent.
