A dramatic video has surfaced of what appears to be a confrontation and shooting near Nanaimo’s Terminal Avenue on March 12.
Provided to CHEK News by an unnamed passerby, the 34-second video opens with a street scene and then moves in on a small group of people crossing the road. They end up in an open area with a building behind them.
One man appears to be holding a gun and pointing it at a man who approached him. The gun appears to go off.
Another man can be seen waving something at the man with the gun.
CHEK News, which shared the video with the Times Colonist, was told Smith didn’t realize until after the fact that he had been shot.
Nanaimo Clint Smith, 49, was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with serious injuries.
Smith had gone to the area with a group of people to try to retrieve stolen equipment they believed was at an encampment.
Craig Truckle of Nanaimo was arrested on March 22 and charged the following day with pointing a firearm without lawful excuse.
He is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Thursday.
