Water to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal has been restored after a water main was fixed.
Problems with a water main at the Swartz Bay ferry terminal led to the closure Wednesday morning of all washrooms, as well as food service at the Land’s End Cafe.
About 3 p.m., B.C. Ferries said the problem had been fixed.
Thirteen portable washrooms were set up as efforts continue to fix the problem, and they will be left in place for a day as a precaution, said B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall.
Marshall said there have been “intermittent” issues with the water main that began before Christmas. She said the cause wasn’t frozen pipes but the age of the plumbing.
A valve was repaired but a different one has malfunctioned this time, she said.
Marshall said B.C. Ferries is “bracing” for snow and freezing rain forecast for Wednesday night.
“The winds are not expected to be outside of our parameters our sailing, although we’re going to closely monitor that.”
She advised people to give themselves extra time to get to ferry terminals.
