Wildlife camera captures break-in attempt on Cadboro Bay Road

Saanich police are applauding some resourceful Cadboro Bay Road residents for gathering images that should lead to the arrest of an intruder.

The residents, who live in the Cadboro Bay and Sinclair roads area, were concerned when they saw a stranger on their secluded property March 8, and decided to install a “trail camera” — one that responds to movement and is often used for such things as recognizing wildlife.

Images taken March 28 showed a man resembling the one spotted earlier attempting to enter their home. “The photographic evidence of the male is highly sophisticated. It is incredibly clear and it will lead to the arrest of this individual,” Saanich police Sgt. Steve Eassie said. “We are very confident in that.”

The suspect may have already been identified by another local police force, he said. Pictures from the trail camera are not being released for security reasons.

The suspect is described as about 40, six feet tall and 200 pounds, with a dark complexion. He had a goatee when the photographs were taken.
