A woman who fell while resisting an armed robbery on Friday tried to flag down passing motorists for help, but no one stopped, Saanich police say.

A man approached the woman on Vernon Avenue at 6: 13 a.m. while she was waiting at a bus stop just north of Saanich Road.

The woman told police the man produced a weapon and demanded her wallet. She said she had no wallet and pushed the man away. She tried to run but fell and dropped her phone.

"As she reached for it, the male produced the weapon again and demanded the woman's wallet as well as the cellphone," police said.

The suspect then grabbed the phone and left on a bicycle. The woman ran to a nearby restaurant and called police.

The man was last seen entering a parking lot at 880 Vernon Ave.

The suspect is described as a white man about 35 years old and of average build, with small, dark eyes, stubble and a broad nose. He was wearing a tan trench-coat and dark cargo-pants and riding a mountain bike.
