Youth arrested after knife assaults outside Courtenay library

A female youth is in custody after several people were assaulted with a knife in downtown Courtenay Wednesday morning.

Comox Valley RCMP received a report about 9 a.m. about the assaults in front of the city library.

Police said a suspect was apprehended within minutes with help from members of the public.

There were no reports of serious injuries.

“The safety and well-being of our community remains our highest priority,” said Insp. Scott Mercer, officer in charge of the Comox Valley RCMP. “We understand the concern this event may cause and we want to reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat.”

The suspect will remain in custody until a court appearance.

Comox Valley RCMP Victim Services has been made available to anyone affected by the incident.
