Active COVID-19 infections in B.C. tick up to 695 over weekend; 18 new cases on Island

British Columbia reported 267 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, including 18 in the Island Health region.

The cases were diagnosed over the previous three days, for an average of 89 new infections per day.

A statement from the Health Ministry says 695 cases were active across the province, up from 603 at the last update on Friday.

One more person has died from COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, pushing B.C.’s death toll from the illness to 1,768.

Forty-three people were in hospital Monday afternoon, including 17 in intensive care.

There are 32 known active cases in Island Health, and one person is in hospital.

The majority of the latest infections were diagnosed in the Interior Health region, where 342 — nearly half of B.C.’s active cases — were located.

The province says 80.6 per cent of eligible B.C. residents ages 12 and up have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 61.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.
