7-Eleven Canada says there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 at its Ladysmith store.
The company is asking anyone who visited the store from March 5 to March 11 to self-monitor for signs of the illness and seek a medical opinion or call 811 if they have any concerns.
The store has been closed for cleaning and sanitization while staff self-isolates with pay for 14 days. It is scheduled to reopen April 2.
Ladysmith Mayor Aaron Stone said the situation is “troubling” but shows the importance of being aware that COVID-19 can appear anywhere.
“My message has been that we should all be assuming that it’s in our community, because I think we’d be foolish if we trick ourselves into thinking we’re not at risk,” he said. “And I think it’s a good reminder to everyone to be mindful of social distancing and self-isolate if possible, especially if you’re sick.”
