Ferry sailings cancelled amid high winds, thousands lose power

B.C.

B.C. Ferries cancelled a number of morning and early-afternoon sailings due to high winds on Wednesday, including on routes from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, Comox to Powell River, Cortes Island to Quadra Island, Port McNeill to Alert Bay and Sointula, and Hornby Island to Denman Island.

Ferries said southeast winds of 60 to 80 kilometres per hour were expected to persist through the day and ease Wednesday night.

Power was also affected, with over 7,200 B.C. Hydro customers experiencing outages on the north Island Wednesday afternoon, and close to 480 on the south Island.
