A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit off the northern tip of Vancouver Island on Wednesday.
The quake, which struck at 12:20 p.m., was about 100 kilometres northwest from shore and 10 kilometres deep.
“We wouldn’t expect it be felt at that distance and that magnitude,” said Natural Resources Canada seismologist Alison Bird.
A series of about nine quakes greater than 4.0 struck in the same area over the holidays.
Bird said such events are not uncommon. “We get swarms of quakes in this area about every year or two.”
