A drunk man had to hang on for dear life as Victoria’s Johnson Street bridge rose with him on it.
Police were called shortly before 8 p.m. Friday after the man was seen on the structure as it was being lifted to accommodate a passing barge.
“By the time officers attended, the bridge was fully up and the man was seen hanging onto a railing bracing himself with his legs,” Victoria police said in a statement. “The bridge was lowered and police were able to take the man into custody.
“It was determined that the man bypassed the bridge safety systems and went onto the bridge after the lift sequence began.”
The man wasn’t hurt. Nor was he charged.
Police are warning bridge users not to try crossing the bridge once any yellow warning light has been activated.
