Nanaimo’s council has unanimously voted in favour of a code of conduct.
The new code is a foundation for how council will conduct city business, Mayor Leonard Krog said Friday.
“This is a commitment from all members of council to work together in a constructive way and treat each other, staff and citizens with dignity and respect,” he said.
The code has four key principles for council members and city staff, beginning with integrity by being honest and ethical. Respect to others is expected, as are accountability and leadership and collaboration.
All council members signed the code at the Feb. 4 council meeting.
Candidates in October’s Nanaimo municipal election campaigned in favour of civilized behaviour around the council table after years of infighting among the previous council.
