New Vancouver Island 911 dispatch centre opens in Saanich

The new South Island 911/Police Dispatch Centre officially opened on Wednesday. The facility, located in Saanich’s Commerce Circle, is owned by the Capital Regional District and will be operated by Emergency Communications for B.C.

The new South Island 911/Police Dispatch Centre officially opened on Wednesday. The facility, located in Saanich’s Commerce Circle, is owned by the Capital Regional District and will be operated by Emergency Communications for B.C. It will provide 911 call answering, and police call-taking and dispatch in the central and south Island areas, answering an estimated 100,000 calls every year. Construction of the $13.1-million facility began in October 2017. Operating since January, it had received more than 9,600 calls by the end of February.
