No new cases of COVID-19 were announced in the Island Health region on Tuesday, although 23 new cases of the virus were reported provincewide.
A new death was announced Tuesday, in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, for a total of 194 deaths in B.C.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint statement there are now 253 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. Ten active cases are in the Island Health region.
To date, 3,076 people who tested positive have recovered.
Nine individuals are in hospital with the disease, including three who are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 1,067 cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,815 in the Fraser Health region, 143 in the Island Health region, 358 in the Interior Health region, 80 in the Northern Health region and 60 cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
In the Island Health region, 128 people have recovered and five have died.
No new health-care facility outbreaks were announced on Tuesday. There remains an outbreak in one long-term care facility and two acute-care facilities. None are in the Island Health region. Active outbreaks continue on Haida Gwaii and at Fraser Valley Packers Inc.

Health officials urged British Columbians to keep groups small and maintain safe distances on the B.C. Day long weekend. Those staying in a hotel room or houseboat can have a maximum of five visitors and must record their contact information, under new provincial health officer orders.
