The Town of Qualicum Beach has posted an online survey asking residents whether backyard chickens belong in the waterfront community.
Backyard chickens were on the way out after council voted in March to prohibit them in residential areas following a three-year pilot project.
But the issue ruffled some feathers and council members decided to seek public input.
Council members had been worried about rats, noise, odours and loose chickens.
Mayor Brian Wiese raised the issue again this summer, saying he had waited until a byelection filled an empty seat on council.
Council members agreed to an online survey, which is to be completed by the end of October. Council will review results as it makes its final decision.
