City of Victoria work crews replaced four storm-sewer grates in Victoria after they were stolen.
One pedestrian who noticed a series of grates missing along Fort Street between Oak Bay Avenue and Richmond Avenue alerted the Victoria Fire Department of the potential hazard to cyclists on Saturday morning. He was told several others had called with similar complaints from different parts of the city.
City work crews replaced four catch-basin grates along Fort Street early Saturday afternoon, said spokesman Bill Eisenhauer.
“Crew have checked others along Fort and in the area and no others are affected that we have found so far,” Eisenhauer said. “We continue to monitor.”
The Victoria Police Department was notified about the stolen grates.
