Six people were displaced in an early morning fire in Central Saanich on Sunday.
Fire crews responded to a duplex fire on Galbraith Crescent around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, said Deputy Fire Chief Rob Nelson. All residents escaped the blaze safely before crews arrived and were assisted by emergency support services.
When firefighters arrived, the duplex’s roof was on fire, preventing crews from entering the house to battle the flames, Nelson said. Most of the roof eventually collapsed, he said.
Crews from North Saanich and Sidney fire departments assisted, and together it took about three hours to extinguish the flames, Nelson said.
The cause is still under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious, he said.
