A man police believed to be armed and dangerous is in custody after a search involving several police departments and protective services at the legislature.

Victoria police said officers began searching for the man after “a series of disturbing incidents” on Monday and Tuesday, including an alleged road-rage incident in which a man in a truck confronted a woman and a disturbance at a bank. No one was injured in either incident.

The man was initially taken into custody after the bank incident on Monday. He was taken to hospital for a mental- health evaluation and released with conditions.

On Tuesday morning, police were looking for the man again after B.C. Legislative Assembly Protective Services said someone had driven a white Chevrolet Silverado truck on the legislature lawn just after 7 a.m.

Officers identified the vehicle and recognized the driver as the man involved in previous incidents. Officers also learned the man had made “concerning, threatening statements” and potentially had access to firearms.

Police found the man in the 500 block of David Street around noon on Tuesday. He was taken into custody without incident, where he remains.

The man faces several charges, including uttering threats and mischief.

Anyone who may have encountered the man driving a white 2021 Chevrolet Silverado truck on Monday and Tuesday or who has information about the incidents is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654, extension 1, or report anonymously by calling Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
