A wildfire burning in Taylor Flats near Sproat Lake has brought out the Port Alberni RCMP to direct traffic due to proximity of the blaze to Highway 4.
“Because the fire is close to the road it may impact suppression efforts, so RCMP are on-site to control the flow of traffic there,” said Coastal Fire Centre information officer Dorthe Jakobsen.
The fire, which is burning in slash, was reported about 9:30 a.m. Sunday and was half a hectare in size by late afternoon.
“We have two initial attack crews plus an officer and two helicopters bucketing,” Jakobsen said, adding that another four-person crew was en route.
