I have followed the attempts by VIHA and the Baptist Housing Society to replace the aging seniors' facility, Oak Bay Lodge, with one that would have provided an updated facility for a greater number of seniors in the Victoria area.

I was greatly disappointed when I learned that Oak Bay council did not approve the second application.

Is this a matter of not wanting a greatly needed housing for a growing clientele in my backyard?

Did Oak Bay council respond to a small number of local residents who pressured council to turn it down since it would create a small measure of inconvenience for them?

Do the people of Oak Bay realize that their city is part of the larger metropolitan Victoria with the necessity to contribute their part to the greater need of the entire area?

I wonder if anyone of those people who spoke against the building of a new facility or any members of the Oak Bay city council feels any regret after reading this article.
