Don't keep database on law-abiding citizens

Re: "Police chief backs licence tracking," Aug. 2.

So Victoria police Chief Jamie Graham sees nothing wrong with the RCMP plan to collect and keep licence-plate data on people who have committed no crime. He quotes that old adage: "If you haven't done anything wrong, what's to worry about?"

Well, I have a counter-question for Graham: "If people haven't done anything wrong, why would the RCMP gather or keep information on them?"

We expect our police forces to investigate and solve crimes, not accumulate massive databases on law-abiding citizens.
