Re: “High-profile Victoria site to get new life,” Jan. 10.
The article states that the motel is surrounded by the Crystal Garden, the Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling Club, the Empress Hotel, the Victoria Conference Centre, the Royal B.C. Museum and St. Ann’s Academy.
What was missed was that the Church of Our Lord, which has been in existence for 140 years and is also a tourist attraction as well as a house of worship, is directly across the street from the motel. One of the founders of Church of Our Lord was Sir James Douglas, the first governor of British Columbia.
Also scattered throughout this city are senior centres and care homes named after the primary founder of the Church of Our Lord, Bishop Edward Cridge. Adjacent to the church is the Cridge Park. We have pews in our Church named after the other founders of British Columbia and a prayer desk dedicated by the Emily Carr family.
For 140 years, the Church of Our Lord has been a light and a presence in the downtown core of this beautiful garden city.
