Hospital visits are unpredictable, stressful

Perhaps the letter writer has not experienced the parking dilemma while involved in a medical emergency.

At Vancouver General Hospital, I parked in the emergency area and left my vehicle there unawares during the wee hours while my husband was in care.

It simply did not cross my mind to check on the car during the assessment period and when waiting for the verdict from the operating room. The car could have been towed during perhaps the worst night of my life.

Another common scenario involved waiting with an elderly parent in emergency, not wanting to leave their side, while the parking meter ticks away and there is a two-hour limit for the space.

Try this on for a six-hour period. We experienced that one, too.

It’s these unpredictable situations that warrant some grace and understanding with timed parking, not the matter of fees.
