Remember the film Field of Dreams — the unknown voice repeated: “Build it and they will come.”
Without being too cynical, I would suggest that if this micro-housing village is built, it would only attract more homeless people from back east hoping to escape the colder winters.
Victoria taxpayers have already purchased several motels for homeless and low-income people. While I have sympathy for people in this predicament, as a taxpayer and homeowner, the financial assistance can only go so far. Everyone must pay their own way. (Of course, there are cases where some people will always require full-time assistance, which I fully support.)
Victoria taxpayers already have a heavy burden with the Johnson Street bridge fiasco.
