Veterans' clubs are not just about memories

The story about the declining state of the Anavets unit on View Street is a sad but factual accounting of the threatened demise of a 95-year-old Canadian military veterans group, a poignant accounting of the failing of yet another institution whose sole aim is to remember those who died or were crippled in the wars that Canada fought.

In addition to being an everlasting "memory bank," its members donate much time and effort in support of the Poppy Drive and other charitable necessities.

The impact of the story was further accentuated by the jazzy writing of Jack Knox. I hope that he and his employer keep updating the Anavet situation to remind everyone that both Anavet and the Royal Canadian Legion are not just about memories, but are vital to many support systems - now and always.
