Shamrocks creating a buzz

There is a buzz in the air, and we’re not talking about those pesky wasps floating around town of late.

There is a buzz in the air, and we’re not talking about those pesky wasps floating around town of late.

Victoria is very much engulfed in its Western Lacrosse Association team – the Shamrocks – who have an opportunity Thursday night to dispose of the Langley Thunder and move on to the Mann Cup.

It would be the Shamrocks’ first appearance in the national championship since 2006. The organization’s last Canadian crown was 2005 and fans are itching to re-live the experience.

The Shamrocks’ Facebook page stated Tuesday night that the club is breaking pre-sale records and are urging fans to pre-purchase or be early come game night.

Shamrocks executive director Paul German says fans need to be at the gate early on Thursday if they want bowl seating. “We expect, by 7:30 p.m. Thursday, to be selling standing room only.”

Victoria put itself in this position with a big 11-8 win in Langley on Sunday night.

If the Shamrocks manage a victory in this WLA championship series it will mark the 18th time the franchise has claimed a league crown.

It's hard to imagine it could possibly get louder than Game 4 last Friday when the Shamrocks won a 4-3 overtime thriller at Bear Mountain Arena, but something tells me I better bring along earplugs this time around.

And you might want to bring your friends.

This could be the next chapter of Shamrocks history as the organization goes in search of a ninth Mann Cup title, exactly what Jim Hartshorne had in mind when he and his general manager Chris Welch brought this talented group together in the off-season.

Thursday night promises to be an action-packed night.

You might want to get your buzz on.
