RealTours show explores why people live in Cultus Lake full time

Get the ultimate guide to Cultus Lake from REW.

Cultus Lake may seem like a summer resort town, but there’s a dedicated group of full-time residents here and in this episode of RealTours from REW.ca, host Stephen Tadgh finds out why.

Cultus Lake became a tourist destination around the turn of the 20th century, but permanent dwellings only started showing up after the Second World War. Those residents first converted their temporary cabins into permanent dwellings; others soon followed and built their own homes.

Still, tourism remains a large part of the economy, with attractions including the lake, Cultus Lake Waterpark and Adventure Parkfishing, camping, hiking, parasailing and more. Cultus Lake itself is a provincial park.

Just south of Chilliwack, Cultus Lake Proper consists mostly of detached homes and some duplexes on 21-year leaseholds held by the Cultus Lake Park Board. But in nearby communities such as Sardis or Lindell Beach, you can get freehold properties. There are also some freehold condos at the Lakeside development.

“It’s quite peaceful and surrounded by nature. You feel like you are away from it all but it’s only five minutes to go shopping, there is an excellent elementary school and the middle/high school is not far away, so it’s the best of both worlds,” says Kristina Legault, a RealTours cast member and agent at Century 21 Creekside Realty.

Recently, listings have fluctuated between 30 and 60 active listings. Still, there are options for Homeseekers. As Kristina explains, “There isn’t a ton of inventory in Cultus Lake and what we see from buyers is if they really want to have that lake access lifestyle they will wait; if they want the lake-style lifestyle but need a bit larger home with a larger lot and a garage, they will go to the Sardis side of Chilliwack.”
