Island baseball teams win season-opening WCL series

The Victoria HarbourCats (2-1) defeated the NorthPaws 10-5 Sunday in Kamloops in the rubber match of their season-opening West Coast League baseball series.

Jake Haggard went three-for-six with three runs scored for Victoria, who opened another three-game series Monday night in Kelowna against the Falcons. The HarbourCats’ home opener is Friday night at Royal Athletic Park against the Wenatachee Wild.

The Nanaimo NightOwls, meanwhile, opened their season over the weekend by going 2-1 in Kelowna against the Falcons. The NightOwls open at home tonight against the Cowlitz Black Bears at Serauxmen Stadium.
