Elvis left the building last spring but will return for Christmas.
A performance by the Stars on Ice Holiday Tour show at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre has been announced for Dec. 10 with Canadian skating legend Elvis Stojko headlining.
The three-time world champion and two-time 1994 Lillehammer and 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics silver medallist has been a regular in the cast of the main Stars on Ice revue that performs annually at the Memorial Centre each May and also in NHL rinks across the country. This will be a rare stop on the Island for the Stars on Ice’s satellite Christmas-themed show that also tours annually but in venues not usually served by the main show in spring.
Stojko still commands the rink with his muscular brand of skating at age 52.
“I feel in great shape because I listen to my body,” Stojko told the Times Colonist, during a recent Stars on Ice performance at the Memorial Centre.
“The Victoria crowd is always fantastic.”
Another notable skater for the Holiday Tour show coming to the Island is Kaetlyn Osmond, women’s singles bronze medallist in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and part of Canada’s Olympic gold-medallist team at Pyeongchang 2018 and silver-medallist team at Sochi 2014. The 28-year-old Osmond was also singles world champion in 2018 and world silver medallist in 2017.
The other Olympic medallists performing on Blanshard Street in December will be Americans Jeremy Abbott and Gracie Gold, both bronze medallists in the team event at Sochi 2014.
Also featured will be Canadians and three-time world championship ice-dance medallists Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, Olympian and two-time Canadian champion Keegan Messing, two-time Canadian champion Nam Nguyen, two-time world championship-medallist Satoko Miyahara from Japan and crowd-pleasing Canadian skater Elladj Baldé.
The 11-stop Holiday Tour begins Dec. 3 in Corner Brook, Nfld. It concludes Dec. 22 in Red Deer, Alta.
