Although he was supposed to be in the Alberni Valley for two years, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs general manager is moving on to a bigger arena.
Spiros Anastas has accepted a position in the Detroit Red Wings organization as analytics coach and advanced scouting director for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Anastas said, while his time in the Alberni organization was much shorter than planned, he believes in the program being developed.
"I would like to thank the sponsors, season-ticket holders, billets, volunteers and fans for their ongoing support of the team," he said. "I believe that this community deserves the absolute best, and I believe the young men in the locker room are a great group with a bright future ahead of them."
But he said the opportunity he has been offered was too good to turn down.
"When an opportunity like this comes along, you have to jump at it," he said.
The organization was quick to offer their congratulations and thanks.
Head coach Kevin Willison will take on the added role of general manager, effective immediately.
