HarbourCats get back to winning ways against Lefties

After getting swept by the scorching-hot Raptors in Ridgefield on Sunday, the Victoria HarbourCats got back on track Monday a little closer to home in Port Angeles.

The HarbourCats beat the host Lefties 7-1 in the first game of a three-game West Coast League set in Port Angeles.

The Raptors, meanwhile continued their winning ways by sweeping the HarbourCats in their three-game series played in suburban Vancouver, Washington. Ridgefield (23-16 overall and 13-0 in the second half) extended its victory streak to 13 games with a 9-4 decision Sunday to get one step closer to the all-time WCL record of 19 consecutive wins set in 2016 by the HarbourCats. Michael Crossland, Michelle Artzberger, Cam Schneider and Jake Haggard led Victoria with two hits each Sunday.

The HarbourCats (5-8 in the second half and 19-21 overall) will need to start stringing together some wins to keep hopes alive of making the playoffs. The HarbourCats trail the Wenatchee AppleSox by 3 1/2 games in the race for the North Division’s second-half title and the playoff spot that goes with it.

After the three games in Port Angeles, the HarbourCats return home to face the Kamloops NorthPaws in a three-game set beginning Friday at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.

The Nanaimo NightOwls ­(19-21 overall), meanwhile, dropped to 7-6 in the second half after losing a 5-4 decision to the Riverhawks on Monday night in Edmonton.

The NightOwls crushed the NorthPaws 12-2 in Kamloops on Sunday before opening a three-game set Monday night in Edmonton.
