HarbourCats take rubber match against Bells

Ny’Zaiah Thompson from NCAA Div. 1 Cal State-Fullerton keyed a six-run second inning, doubling with the bases loaded to score three runs, in a 6-2 West Coast League victory over the Bellingham Bells on Sunday at Royal Athletic Park.

Garrett Teunissen from Cal State-San Marcos, Lucas Ramirez from the NCAA powerhouse University of Tennessee Volunteers, Gunner Antillon from Cal-Baptist and Jake Haggard had two hits each for Victoria, which won the three-game weekend series 2-1.

HarbourCats starter Payton Hawkinson, out of Cal State-Fullerton, delivered four strong innings in allowing only one hit.

The HarbourCats play the Senior A Redmond Dudes from Washington state in an exhibition game tonight at Royal Athletic Park followed by a cross-strait three-game WCL set at RAP against the Port Angeles Lefties (4-14).

The Nanaimo NightOwls (7-11) lost 6-4 on Sunday to the South Division second-place Pickles (13-6) in Portland. The NightOwls open a three-game set tonight against the North Division last-place Kamloops NorthPaws (3-15) at Serauxmen Stadium in the Harbour City.
