Eric Eggleston continues to hold a hot hand as the Westshore Rebels' receiver hauled in three touchdown catches in a 46-8 win over the Chilliwack Huskers in B.C. Football Conference play on Saturday afternoon on the mainland.

Runningbacks Greg Morris, on a 32-yard scamper, and Niles Goguen (30-yard screen play) and receiver Joe Barkhouse added major scores for the Rebels, who even their record at 1-1.

Quinn Van Gylswyk, who had a solid day punting the ball, rounded out the Westshore scoring.

Starting quarterback Jesse Herman threw for three touchdowns while backups Mark Herman and Mike Dumensil added one each through the air in the second half after the Rebels had built up a 32-1 advantage at halftime.

"Obviously, against a team like that we expect to get going smoothly and score a few points," Rebels' offensive co-ordinator Charlie Cardilicchia said of the Huskers, who are winless in their last two seasons (0-20).

"We were in the red zone three times in the first quarter but were only up 3-0, so coach decided we need to go for seven points," added Cardilicchia, who called Goguen's number on the screen play to make it 10-0.

Then Eggleston went to work.

"He had another great game," Cardilicchia said. "His last one was a fantastic catch - contested, knocked up in the air, juggled and caught in the end zone. We're really excited about Eric and where he's headed."

It was the first of three meetings against Chilliwack this season in an unbalanced schedule, which should work to Westshore's advantage.

The Rebels did take more than 20 penalties on the day, which Cardilicchia said the team will address this week in preparation of Saturday's home game against the Kamloops Broncos, at 4 p.m. at Bear Mountain Stadium.

"Way too many penalties," agreed Rebels' president Roger Wade. "We played well, though, especially on defence."

It was a healthier defensive unit that took the field in Week 2 as opposed to the opening 44-14 loss to the Vancouver Island Raiders last weekend.

The Huskers' only score came from Josh Hayden.
