The Victoria Shamrocks didn’t leave the Island to participate in the Western Lacrosse Association draft on Wednesday night, electing to make their selections via the phone.

They did venture across to the mainland to grab their first pick, however, selecting Taylor Northway of the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs at 14th overall as the Mann Cup champs elected not to pull from within. They will now have to sway the six-foot, 203-pound transition player to come across to Victoria or possibly use him in a future trade.

Victoria did select defender Max Cullen of the Jr. Shamrocks with their second choice, 21st overall.

Josh Byrne was the first overall selection, taken by the Burnaby Lakers. The Nanaimo Timbermen, who had 10 of the first 25 selections, chose the first player from Vancouver Island, calling Saanich Jr. B product Jordan Cunningham’s name at No. 10. Junior Shamrocks goalie Charles Claxton went next to the Maple Ridge Burrards.

For all remaining selections you can check the WLA website.
