Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre is home rink for the Victoria Royals hockey team.

It’s expected to be a hot item, so organizers of next month’s NHL preseason game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames are encouraging people to buy tickets online.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. for the Canucks-Flames contest Sept. 16 at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

It will be a split-squad game with players from the Canucks and Flames also playing in Calgary that same evening. The Victoria game will be televised, however, so it is expected that most name-recognition regular Canucks players will play here.

Fans are being strongly encouraged to purchase their tickets at selectyourtickets.com and not line up at the box office.

The speed and efficiency of internet ticket sales “make the odds, for even the first 10 people who line up at the [Memorial Centre] box office to get tickets, not high,” RG Sports and Entertainment, which operates the Memorial Centre, said in a statement. “Fans overwhelmingly give themselves the best chance to secure tickets through online purchase.”

Fans are advised to prepare by going to selectyourtickets.com in advance to create their account. An account is necessary to purchase tickets online.

The other two avenues for purchase are by telephone at 250-220-7777 or to show up in person at the Memorial Centre box office, where a random lineup policy (customers are given a number and the numbers are then drawn randomly) will be in effect.

Due to the efficiency of internet sales, there will be limited access to tickets to those choosing either phone or the in-person purchasing options, RG Sports and Entertainment said.

There is a limit of eight tickets per person. Orders exceeding the ticket limit may be cancelled without notice by Select Your Tickets at its discretion. This includes multiple orders having the same account number, name, billing address or credit card.

Ticket prices are $63.50 for club seats, $53.50 for sides and $44 for corners and ends, plus taxes and service charges.

The Canucks will hold their 2019 training camp at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre Sept. 13-15. All practice sessions will be open to the public for a $5 admission fee, with net proceeds donated to charity. Organizers said a complete schedule of the training camp, including ice times and player information, will be provided closer to the start of camp.
