Everything old is new again for the Victoria Shamrocks. Veteran forward Rhys Duch, one of the most prolific scorers in team history, will play his 12th overall season for the Shamrocks this summer.
The 35-year-old Island product won a Mann Cup national championship with the Shamrocks in 2015 and has 883 points in his career with the club. Duch was named WLA MVP in 2016 and made the league all-star team on three occasions.
Duch was rookie of the year in his debut pro season in the National Lacrosse League. After nine seasons with the Vancouver Stealth, he led the Calgary Roughnecks to the NLL Cup in 2019. Duch was most recently in the NLL with the Halifax Thunderbirds.
“The Shamrocks have been a part of my life for a long time, and I can’t wait to get out on the floor in front of the fans again,” Duch said in a statement.
“I’m mostly excited to share the game with my family on and off the floor now that my kids are old enough to appreciate it. Needless to say it was a short conversation when they approached me this year.”
Victoria head coach Mike Simpson said Duch “immediately makes our offence a more dangerous group.”
The Shamrocks open the 2022 WLA season May 27 against the New Westminster Salmonbellies at The Q Centre.
