Innovate B.C. names new chair
Andrew Petter has been named the new chair of Innovate B.C.’s board of directors.
The Crown agency connects innovators in every industry and region with the funding, resources and support to build and grow companies. The board is responsible for setting Innovate B.C.’s strategic direction, approving major financial decisions and measuring corporate performance, among other responsibilities.
Petter has two decades of post-secondary leadership experience at Simon Fraser University and the University of Victoria. He was SFU’s president and vice-chancellor from 2010 to 2020 and remains a professor in its School of Public Policy.
Petter spent a decade as an MLA, serving as minister of advanced education, training and technology, and overseeing development of the province’s first high-tech strategy.
Redlin joins Sports Hall of Fame board
Gord Redlin has joined the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame’s board of directors. Redlin has been involved in sports — including lacrosse, soccer, tennis, hockey and rowing — as an athlete, coach and administrator since an early age, He was a national lacrosse champion, a provincial soccer champion and a B.C. Games silver medallist.
The other board members are Robert Bettauer, Nicholas Cumberbirch, Chris Graham, Doug Henderson, Clint Hamilton, Louise Hodgson-Jones, Fern Johnson, Stacie Louttit, Lois Smith, Murray Smith, Jim Swanson and Tom Turnbull.
Stilwell given role in COVID testing
Former Canadian Paralympic gold medallist and Island MLA Michelle Stilwell has been named director of rapid testing for CVM Medical Ltd.
Her role with CVM will be to contribute to the safe return and reopening of businesses across Western Canada.
CVM Medical does private COVID-19 testing for businesses, travellers and workers.
